According to the body mass index, you are considered overweight if your index is between 25 and 29. If your index is over 30, you are considered obese. The American collage of sports medicine defines obesity as an amount of body fat that increases the risk of disease. As a general rule, more than 25 body fat for men and more than 32 body fat for women is considered obesity.

You can make losing weight a little easier if you just set a small goal at first, then when you reach that goal, set another small goal and aim for that. Why are ProForm treadmills so popular?

When you compare the price and features, ProForm treadmills appear to be an exceptional deal. Most have numerous bells and whistle, including built-in televisions. And from an outward appearance they appear to be a substantial machine, but it is what is under the hood that is most important.

The majority of ProForm treadmills come with a 90 day parts and labor warranty. Now what does that say about their products? I find treadmill warranties very revealing. It would seem apparent that treadmill companies using inexpensive components would offer short-term warranties. In contrast, those manufacturers that build durable treadmills can afford to offer extended warranties, like 2-5 years on the parts and 1 year labor. Although it should be mentioned that ProForm is now offering a 12-15 year motor warranty on select models.

Recently I was at a fitness specialty store in Wilmington, NC, and was talking to the person in charge of servicing. Although this particular retailer did not sell ProForm, they often service them. He mentioned they were considering discontinuing service on the ProForm treadmills. The problem was once they fixed one problem often the owners would soon came back with the same problem or another service issue.

Furthermore, Consumer Reports rated one of the ProForm treadmills as Very Good for quality. But it is a numbers game, and whereby other brands may have a minute percentage of mechanical problems, you can expect that percentage to be higher for budget treadmills. I recommend ProForm treadmills for primarily walking and moderate use. Their high-end models can probably handle light jogging. But if you plan to use the treadmill on a frequent basis, or have multiple users, you may want to consider other brands in the 1,500 price range.

If your budget is tight, at least spend in excess of 700 for a ProForm Treadmill, and I highly recommend you put out a few extra dollars for an extended warranty. Treadmill repairs can potentially be costly.

For those that have a limited budget ProForm may be your best bet, but as the saying goes, You get what you pay for.

If youre resistance training program isnt performing for you; theres a solution. Get back to basics give your routine a face lift by reviewing these 5 fitness canons.

Canon 1 Always Exhibit Proper Posture
The most important thing to remember when resistance training proper form will make all the difference. Forget sets and reps, if its results youre looking for and your form isnt solid, you are asking for injury not to mention an inferior workout.

Guarantee a shape-shift by using this technique
Stand in front of the mirror with feet shoulder width apart, eyes facing forward. Tuck you hips under and engage your abdominals this will protect your spine and lower back and place your body in the safety zone.

Use this technique when performing a lift from a sitting position, as well. Make a mental picture; train your mind to notice if you are out of alignment by recognizing how this protective, invisible girdle feels around your torso. Soon, you will find your body naturally conforming to this posture.

Its often been said 3 repetitions performed with precision will net greater results than 20 repetitions performed with momentum. This statement demonstrates the difference in the two Yes, youll need to challenge yourself and push your bodys limits, but swinging weights and using momentum not only looks sloppy, but begets equal results. The answer A proper lift with a sensible weight will create definition and a sleek beautiful body.

Canon 4 Be Aware of Lifting To Heavy
Canon 4 is a natural extension of the previous principle. Remember its important to make strength gains during resistance training and this will happen naturally however, if you are forcing the lift, you are using a weight that is too heavy.

Heres the test After a workout, you may experience some slight soreness in the muscle. However, if this soreness lasts beyond 48 hours, it may be a sign that you are lifting too heavy. As a rule always aim to warm up and cool down, before and after your workout session.

Canon 5 Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
The body is made of 60 – 70 water, therefore, it is important to hydrate the body before, during and after exercise as the increased exertion accelerates the rate of water loss. A rule of thumb is to drink at least an 8oz glass of water before during and after you workout. This will keep the body hydrated. It will also prevent dehydration and undue stress on your kidneys.

The Secret Canon
Something else to keep in mind for a safe, effective workout obtain proper footwear. This should not be taken lightly. Proper footwear will help protect your feet, back and joints from receiving the majority of impact. As a rule you should take a constant inventory of your feet, replacing your training shoes 2-3 times per year depending on use. You will know when its time if theyve broken down or feel loose and sloppy.

Above all Listen to you body! Be aware of what is trying to tell you. Its my guess, however, if you aim your awareness toward these canons of resistance training; your body will reward you with a strong, shapely, and injury free body – just in time for summer.

Hoodia Gordonii – One Reason To Take It


When Hoodia was discovered the very first animal trials to test it was with Rats. The rats that were fed with Hoodia stopped eating completely. Rats are well know as animals that will eat anything and everything. Can you believe that an animal who loves to eat anything simply switched off its desire to eat, even when foods that rats love were placed in front of them.

When the first clinical human trial was conducted with Hoodia, several morbidly obese people were placed in a unit which was a closed off area were all that they could do was to read, watch television, interact with each other, and of course eat. Half the people were given Hoodia Gordonii to take, and half were given a placebo. After fifteen days, the group that had been taking Hoodia Gordonii had reduced their calorie intake by 1000 calories a day – despite taking no exercise and not being on a diet

This is due to the active ingredient in Hoodia Gordonii, the molecule known as P57, as it imitates the effects that glucose has on your brain, signaling that you are full. Your brain has what is called a Hypothalamus. This part of your brain controls your appetite. When you eat, the glucose levels in your body rise. As these levels go up, the hypothalamus sends off a signal to your cells to stop eating. This is when you start to feel full. Hoodia Gordonii’s molecule, P57, tells your brain the same exact thing, even if you haven’t eaten a bite. By mimicking the effects of glucose on your brain, the hypothalamus starts to send messages to your cells which in turn, make you feel full

Hoodia is grown in the Kalahari Desert region of South Africa, Hoodia Gordonii is an all natural appetite suppressant, derived from a cactus like plant with prickly spikes. Scientists have been researching the Hoodia plant for almost a decade, and have found it to be completely free of harmful side effects.
